Loretta Lynn: Van Lear Rose

At 70, Loretta Lynn made the most successful crossover album of her career with the release of Van Lear Rose in 2004.

Nominated for 5 Grammy Awards and winning 2, Rolling Stone voted it the 2nd best album of the year. Van Lear Rose was the first album Loretta Lynn wrote or co-wrote every song. With a score of 97, it tied for the highest Metacritic ranking with Brian Wilson's Smile.

Produced by admirer Jack White, who dedicated his own 2001 White Stripes album to Lynn, he sings on the albums only duet, Portland, Oregon which he co-wrote with Lynn, as well as plays on the entire album along with members of the Raconteurs, and provides backing vocals.

For its first time on vinyl, this is a single 180 gram disc pressed by United Record Pressing on Jack's Third Man label, in a stunning Stoughton tip-on jacket with printed inner sleeve and two-sheet lyric/photo insert.

300 copies were pressed on beautiful blue marble- but lots of luck trying to get these uber limited Third Man colored pressings currently being flipped on eBay for $150-$200.

I bought this the instant I heard it was out. One of my stores posted about it on FB and I was out the door in 5 minutes. It's so great to be able to go to the record store and physically pick up the music you want, bring it home, and properly dig into it.
